Hateful Henry County, Georgia Commissioner ruins Reenactment

Dee Clemmons

Henry County, Georgia Commissioner

Nash Farm Battlefield is located in Hampton, ga, in Henry County. Henry County is close  to Atlanta and just South of the big city. The battle field site has featured reenactments of the 1864 battle between Confederate and Union forces many times. In 2019 a reenactment was planned and was to feature live firing of arms and cannon on April 13th and 14th. Reenactors from across the US had made plans for a large event featuring Confederate and Union forces.

Ever since Clemmons became a commissioner, she has led an effort to destroy Nash Farm Battle Field. A museum once held a large private collection of War Between the States items. Ms. Dees made sure the museum was shut down.

Due to Ms. Clemmons efforts, the Commission denied the ability of the reenactors to do live fire with their rifles and cannons for the 2019 event. The organizers, in spite of this denial, made an effort to have a living history. Two days before the event occurred, April 13th, the Nash Farm Battlefield sign was destroyed as seen below.

This entire series of effort by Ms. Clemmons has been clearly hateful, spiteful and un-american. A new sign was put up removing the battle field/cannon sign the day of the event.

When the reenactors that showed up held the living history, the reenacting results were pitiful. Watching these men having to pretend to fire their weapons, unlike most reenactments where live fire his held, was a very painful experience.

This kind of un-american action by Commissioner Dee Clemmons is similar to actions taking place across America today. It is a shame that one commissioner is allowed to ruin what could have been a very good reenactment. In spite of this, all those who attended and those that put the encampment on, enjoyed the bravery of the men and women who showed up and did their best to show a part of American history.

If you would like to contact Dee Clemmons and let her know your feelings about her actions she can be reached as follows.

  2. How can a County Commisioner stop a group of re-enactors from firing their guns and artillery?
Does the commission realize that there not firing live ammunition?
Why has the commission lost it's spine? Because Dee Clemmons doesn't approve? What a terrible waste for the people who look forward to attending these type of events. Shame on the County Commission!!

    1. All history is not good history... She can't be racist because her decision wasn't the effort to control another race.... it's based off the sensitivity of those most offended by the "dark history"... a decent person would understand

    2. A decent person would understand the reenactments reflect both sides and it is not and has never been about race. An educated person would also know this but unfortunately Clemmons and Holmes and you do not.

    1. Amanda, you are not to knowledgeable about the War. Lincoln said it was for taxes, Congress said it was for preserving the Union, Confederate President Davis said it was for Southern Independence. Why should we consider YOU a better source than the men who were there? Moron.

    2. Starting off with incorrect suppositions results in very wrong solutions. You will have to look long and hard to find any of those men who for the cause of slavery. Such could have been done without a war compliments of Abraham Lincoln and the U.S. Congress --

      March 2, 1861
No amendment shall be made to the Constitution which will authorize or give to Congress the power to abolish or interfere, within any State, with the domestic institutions thereof, including that of persons held to labor or service by the laws of said State.
      36th Congress 2nd Session

      March 4, 1861
I understand a proposed amendment to the Constitution which amendment, however, I have not seen has passed Congress, to the effect that the Federal Government shall never interfere with the domestic institutions of the States, including that of persons held to service. To avoid misconstruction of what I have said, I depart from my purpose not to speak of particular amendments so far as to say that, holding such a provision to now be implied constitutional law, I have no objection to its being made express and irrevocable.

    3. Well, Amanda, you seem to have a faulty memory as well: Tribes in Africa took prisoners in their squabbles over territory and sold those slaves to Portuguese slavers, Spanish slavers, English slavers, French slavers, Muslim slavers, and just about anyone else who was in the trade at the time (and it still flourishes today in Africa). We also imposed a draft in the North - involuntary servitude - to free others who were in slavery (Ironic, isn't it?). So where is the appreciation for their sacrifice? None - nothing but self-centered "I'm owed" by modern immature adults who were never slaves, but would look for the easy way to make a buck, and lack the moral fiber to actually do something worthy of both respect and fulfillment of the opportunities paid for by such a dear price as the lives lost in that war. Equal chance was what was fought for and gained - equal outcomes we never a guarantee, which is why I find it funny that people who applied themselves to earn success are called "Uncle Toms" by others for exercising that freedom to pursue their dreams through WORK. But some find it easier to play victim and demand compensation, when those who were victimized have died a long time ago - as free people.

    5. Amanda, I bet you are a Democrat! Hope you realize that the ones who wanted to end slavery in America was...wait for it.....Republicans. Might want to read up on your history first. The very first person in America to own slaves were....again wait for it.....a black person. Also, NOT ALL SALVES WERE BLACK! And let's not forget that not all states that owned slaves were in the south, on yes, also northern states owned slaves as well.

    6. Amanda...do your research dear and know what it was about. You will discover that Africans were sold by their own people into slavery. Had the slaves stayed in their own country where cannibalism was part of their culture the chances are pretty high that they would have been eaten by the folks who eventually sold them. And then my dear you wouldnt be here to complain about something you don't even know the truth about.

  8. It's the same ole story, if the south hadn't fought for slavery, it's the same ole defense. They think everybody on slaves, so you should be punished. And the fact is there's noway everybody on slaves, it was a rich man's war,and alot of the poorer people were conscripted to go and fight or be branded a coward or had the money to pay to someone else to go in there place. The war was more complex then most know without studing history of the conflict. But it's people like this commissioner thinks she a social warriors for the oppressive ignorant class to preach hate to divisional everybody in there idealistic orb.

  9. Amanda, the definition of racist is a person who shows or feels discrimination or prejudice against a person or persons of other races or who believes that a particular race is superior to. So yes, Ms. Clemmons is a racist. She spews hatred for anyone who wants to preserve history of the south. She keeps saying that it all needs to go away. Yet she does not understand that if it all goes away, she will lose her ability to use the race card. If it all goes away, slavery goes away. No one in my family ever own a single person of any other color, race or religion and I doubt that any member of her family ever served time as anyone's slave. I am so sick of this tired old argument! I love History...all history!

  10. We must join together to stop history being erased.

  11. I understand the time of slavery from history, not because of today in America. Africa still have slaves, not owed by whites, but Africa's. Good or bad, history should stay. Wiping it out of text books or stopping this reenactment, doesn't erase anything. Have you thought about praises God it doesn't exist anymore? I am white and not ashamed of being born white.I live in the future, but history is something we all can look back on and learn from the past. Everyone today is free. Not oppressed! I'm truly tired of using 'this is offensive to me and wanting it removed. If it's offensive to you then don't go, don't attend, but don't take the opportunity away from others who want to attend. I can tell you this, if This stuff continues, people will get fed up and start pushing back. I will stand for my right just like Me. Clemmons. You don't speak for me. Your using power you truly don't have. There should had been a town hall meeting and the people are free to speak. You work for the people. You were voted into office. And you can be voted out. Your actions are racist. I see LBGT, transgender, illegals, planned parenthood, and the list goes on and on. They all speak out bad about our country, our PRESIDENT, they all cry to get what they want. But how many times do you see the white race out in the streets? And the few times you do, the media reports it as a group of white supremacist. No I,am seen whites at the white house protesting against killing babies, trying to stop the flow of illegals entering our country. WE ARE FULL! No matter what anyone thinks we matter too. We are apart of society and I will not continue to let others shut me up. I'm a proud American, and I stay for law of the land, freedom of speech, the constitution, and our Flag.

  13. By her ignorance in trying to stop history from being remembered, she is setting up a new generation to repeat the past. Clearly she's not intelligent enough to realize there is but ONE race, the human one, and to forget the cost of recognizing that equality is a slap in the face to the soldiers who fought to end slavery, and a slap in the face to those who did not own slaves but fought to protect their homes (which shows she has no understanding of the Civil War, except what she was told by poorly trained American Education Teachers who are NOT historians by any stretch of the term. Small wonder that other nations consider our electorate stupid and ineffective - they voted her in, didn't they?

  14. She didn’t want them to celebrate there history but she was the commissioner that let a group have our county park to celebrate the Caribbean history for free. The group gave her an award and then ended up tearing up the baseball field after a bad storm. I’m okay with the festival, I was one of the many white people that attended. I was upset when I found out see didn’t charge them and then we had to use our county taxes to repair what the group messed up because they were not under any contract. I think we should celebrate different heritages. So don’t bring down one persons race and then bend over backwards for your own.

  15. She, and probably the rest, need an education on the benefits of Heritage Tourism. Folks travel to see places where history happen be it coal mines, battlefields (of any war), plantations, civil rights, museums. They have a gem there and are falling off the horse on using it for economic benefit to them. Sad.

  17. It's a damned shame that an event honoring our fallen heroes on both sides of the conflict is subject to the whims of personal bias and bigotry of Ms. Clemmons. She is letting her personal, ill informed view of history have swsy over an event that no doubt brings in tourist dollars, all to satisfy her inflated ego. You folks in Henry county need to recall her and remove such taint from the board of commisioners
    Insist on a countywide referendum!
